Lemon Squares

2 cups flour
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 cups sugar
4 tsp. grated lemon peel (optional)
4 tbsps. lemon juice
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
4 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Thoroughly mix flour, butter and powdered sugar.  Press with hands in bottom of an ungreased 13" x 9" cake pan.  (If dough is sticky, flour fingers.)  Bake for 20 minutes.

Beat remaining ingredients until light and fluffy.  Pour over hot crust.

Bake for 25 minutes or until no indentation remains when touched lightly in center.  Lightly sprinkle powdered sugar over the top.  Let stand until cool.  Cut into squares.
